Many Brigg roofs are older brick streets with tiles that have weathered for decades, and F H Roofing can remove moss and lichen carefully, then check the roof and clear the gutters.
A roof does not have to leak to need attention. In Brigg, plenty of tiles have a coating of moss or lichen that has been building slowly for a long time, and the owner only notices when a gutter overflows or a tile slips. Catching growth early is usually simpler and kinder to the roof than waiting for visible damage.
F H Roofing covers Brigg for moss removal and roof cleaning on houses, outbuildings and small commercial premises. Most enquiries begin with a simple question: is this safe to clean, or does something need fixing first? We look at the tiles, the pitch, the gutters and the amount of growth, and then explain what we would do. Free quotations are offered.
Moss, algae and lichen are living organisms that settle wherever a roof stays damp. Algae forms dark streaks, moss grows in thick pads along overlaps and ridges, and lichen produces round crusty patches that grip hard. Together they keep tiles wet, which encourages frost damage in winter and slowly breaks down porous surfaces. They also shed material into gutters, narrowing outlets until rain spills over the edge. Roofs with trees close by or a slope that faces away from the sun usually collect growth first.
We start by hand. Scrapers and stiff brushes lift the bulk of the moss without forcing water under the tiles. What is left, mainly algae and lichen, can be treated with a low-pressure or soft-wash application that lets the solution do the work over time. Older brick-town roofs often have worn, brittle tiles, and for those we take extra care or may advise leaving a section alone. There is no single method for every roof, and we will explain our choice before work begins.
Once the surface is clear, we look at the roof properly: tiles that have cracked or slipped, mortar that has crumbled at the ridge, and any flashing that has lifted. Gutters and downpipes are cleared at the end, so the debris that came off the roof does not end up blocking them. Treatment to discourage regrowth is an option, but we do not promise a moss-free roof for any particular length of time. A quick look every year or two, and a trim of overhanging branches, gives a far better chance of keeping it clean.
Brigg is a market town on the River Ancholme in north Lincolnshire, with older brick streets in the centre and mixed housing spreading out around them. That mix means we meet everything from traditional tiled terraces to more recent homes with larger, simpler roofs. We work in Brigg and travel from Beckingham to jobs across the area, including Market Rasen, Gainsborough and Lincoln. If you manage more than one building, such as a house and a garage or a small row of units, tell us and we can look at the lot together.
We also take on roof moss removal work in nearby Market Rasen, Gainsborough, Lincoln.

They explained everything clearly from the start and the finished roof looks brilliant. You can really tell they take pride in their work. Would definitely recommend FH Roofing to anyone needing a new roof!”
It depends on the size of the roof, how thick the growth is and how easy access is. A small roof may be a day or less, while a large or heavily covered one takes longer. We can give a clearer idea once we have seen it.
Yes, but the method differs. Concrete usually copes well with hand removal and soft washing, clay needs a gentler touch, and slate can be brittle with age. We choose according to the roof and say if cleaning is not sensible.
We will show you what we find and explain whether it needs attention now or can wait. You decide what happens next, and any repair is quoted separately before it goes ahead.
