Boston's flat fenland setting means wind and driven rain hit the eaves hard, so worn soffits and rotten roofline boards tend to show up sooner than people expect.
Standing near the river in Boston, you can see how little there is to slow the weather down. Rain and wind come across open ground and push straight at the edges of roofs. Soffits and fascias sit right in the firing line, and timber ones eventually give up.
F H Roofing covers Boston and the villages around it, replacing failed soffits with UPVC and renewing rooflines where the boards are beyond saving. Whether your home is a Victorian terrace, an older brick house or one of the big modern estates, the approach is the same: look properly first, then tell you plainly what is needed.
The signs are usually easy to spot from the pavement. Paint lifting in sheets, boards bowing away from the wall, black mould along the underside and small holes where something has been nesting. On Victorian terraces the eaves are often shallow, so a leaking gutter can soak the soffit within a single wet season. We take the failed boards off, look at the timber behind them, and refit with UPVC soffit boards that will not rot or need repainting. If the fascia has been soaked as well, we will say so before the job starts, not halfway through it.
A full roofline replacement means new fascias, new soffits and any vents that belong with them, all fitted as one matching set. It is worth considering when several boards have gone or the old ones were patched in different materials over the years. Vented soffits or small in-board vents keep air moving into the loft, and that matters on newer estates where insulation is thick and the roof space needs a clear path for moisture to escape. We check that insulation is not blocking the eaves, because a vent that is covered up cannot do anything.
Fresh white boards look right next to guttering that matches them. Mixing new boards with cracked, sagging old gutters usually means a second visit later. If the guttering is also tired, we can renew it at the same time so brackets, joints and downpipes line up. After that, upkeep is light: clear leaves and silt from the gutters in autumn, and wash the boards down with soapy water when green film appears. Avoid anything abrasive, as it dulls the finish of the plastic.
Boston is a fenland port town on the River Witham, with the tower of St Botolph's, the Boston Stump, visible for miles across the flat land. That open ground is exactly why roofs and chimneys here take so much wind, and why we pay attention to how securely boards and soffits are fixed back to the structure. Housing ranges from Victorian terraces to older brick houses and sizeable modern estates. We also work in Spalding, Holbeach, Skegness and Sleaford, so nearby addresses are generally within reach.

Yes, UPVC is light, does not rot and is fixed back securely to the structure. The key in windy places is the fixing, so boards are held firmly at regular intervals and joints are overlapped properly rather than just butted together.
Very little. An occasional wash with warm water and a soft brush removes dust and algae. Check the gutters above them for blockages, since overflowing water is what stains and damages boards in the first place.
It depends on the size of the house and how many boards need changing. A small run can be done quickly, while a whole roofline on a larger home takes longer. We will talk through the likely time when we give your free quote.
